About Us

Posted by James Walsh on

My name is Jim Walsh. I was born and raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana. I have been fishing and hunting since was old enough to walk. I absolutely Love fishing, especially with artificial lures. I love to piece together the "puzzle" to figure out what the fish are biting. Lure type, lure action, lure color, lure presentation, water conditions, weather conditions. So many pieces to the puzzle, but once you figure it out there is no better feeling or sense of accomplishment. And this is what brought about Walshhog Custom baits. I was tired of all the "cookie cutter" hard baits and not being able to find exactly what I was looking for color wise, So I started painting my own baits. I taught myself some art basics and how to use an airbrush. I experimented with several types and methods of clear coats till I found one I was completely satisfied with. I started fishing with my custom painted lures and friends started asking about them so I painted them a few. This past year through word of mouth people started asking if I would paint them a lure, so I figured what the heck I would paint a few, take them to the local weekend market and see what happened. I was not prepared for what happened next. I sold almost all the baits I painted. I struggled to keep up with demand this past Christmas(I also have a full time Job as a Veterinarian Technician). Now keep in mind I'm just an "old country boy" who loves to fish I never considered (and still don't) to be an artist. with that being said each lure is hand painted/airbrushed and no two lures will ever be exactly the same. I couldn't do that even if I tried. Some people have even said my lures were too beautiful to fish with and purchased them for keepsakes, although this was never my intentions I view it as a compliment, I paint these lures to catch fish. Whether  you purchase a lure to fish with or for a keepsake my goal is to make sure your happy with it!
